Sharks swim meet

Yesterday, 6/25/11, I had a swim meet. I did pretty good. I won all four of my events and got a time improvement on two of my three individual ones. My first event was the Medley Relay. My team barely won the event to get my first win. I also felt proud of it because I had helped the team win.

Individual events
My first event was the 50 yard butterfly. I barely won that. The problem was, the only time I actually look to see where I am is at the turn. The problem was, the guy was on my right side and I only look on my left side so I didn't know where the guy was. But still, I won anyway with a two second time drop. My next event was the 100 I.M. I dropped one second to win my four seconds. My final event was the 50 yard breaststroke. Even though I added a little bit, I still won the race.

How I Felt
I felt really good about winning all my races. I felt that all the hard work I did had paid off. Everybody thought that I was a really fast swimmer. This made me feel proud and respected.

Christmas Eve Palm Springs Day 1

Today, Christmas Eve, was a very fun day. Before I left for Palm Springs, this is what I did.

Christmas presents
Because I wasn't going to be home for Christmas day, my parents and I decided to open the presents during Christmas Eve morning. I got the following gifts:
  • Hiking boots
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Snacks
  • Net bag
I gave my mom a Christmas craft project I made before as well as two yogurt land 5 oz. free tickets. I gave my dad a 2011 calendar and a mechanical pencil. Finally, I gave my brother a poem book and a small plastic dinosaur.

Tahuitz Creek Golf Course
Once I got to Palm Springs, I went to a golf course called the Tahuitz Creek golf course. The course was really challenging and there were lots of ponds, lakes, and rivers. One of my favorite holes was hole 7 which is like an island par 4. There are two islands you can hit onto. One is the fairway in which you can hit an approach shot to the green or you can take a risk and try to drive the ball over two rivers and onto the green. It was a really hard hole to par because there were also lakes on the left and right side of the fairway and green.
Another hole I liked was hole three which was a short par 3. Not only there was a large green, but there was also another green connected to it! It was so weird!

Thankgiving holiday

My thanksgiving holiday was very exciting because first I had the whole week off, which meant less homework and more time to play.

Golf
On Monday, I played on the Oak Creek golf course. I played the challenging back nine and got a score of +7. Here was how I did.

I parred three holes bogeyed five holes and doubled one hole. I also hit three greens and hit almost all of the fairways. I had one "one putt" and one "three putt" to finish with a putting average of "two putts"

On Wednesday, I played golf with my best "golfing friend" Christopher. I played on the Oak Creek golf course. This time, my friend and I tried to play all 18 holes. Unfortunately, it got dark too early so I had to go back to the club house to call my dad.

I played O.K. I got +9. I got six bogeys, two double bogeys, and six pars. I hit five out of twelve greens and hit about 80% of fairways. My putting average turned from a 2 to a 1.89.

Swimming
Swimming was normal. I hit four out of six practices. I also managed to make a Saturday morning practice from 7:30 to 9:30. I also had a private lesson with "coach Todd" Here is what I learned:

  • Don't slap face in water while doing breast stroke.
  • Do pull first then do kick in butterfly
Thanksgiving dinner
To celebrate Thanksgiving, I went to a friend named Jensen's house to have turkey, mashed potatoes, apple cider, ice cream, and more. I also played a rock band video game and played football outside.

Conclusion
The thanksgiving weekend was really fun I couldn't wait for winter break.

Birch Hills golf tournament

Yesterday, October 23, 2010, I had a golf tournament at Birch Hills Golf Course. I did O.K. because I got a +7. The thing was, I was +7 on the first five holes. Then I was even on the last four holes.

Here is my scorecard
Hole:            1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8   9
Par:              3    3    3    4    4    3    3    3   3
My Score:      4    5    5    5    5    3    4    2   3
Over par:    +1  +3  +5  +6  +7 +7  +8  +7 +7
Putts:            2    2    2    3    3    2    2    1   2

Here are a few of my strong points and weaknesses:

Weaknesses
As you can see, the first five holes were a mess. My main problem was long putts and making putts over ten feet. Gradually, my putting improved. I also struggled in my pitching and chipping. My goal is to have sharper chips and pitches and get the long putts close to the hole. I will work on this by chipping with lots of balls so that I won't have to waste time picking up balls one at a time. I will also do that the same way with my putting.

Strong Points
On the last four holes, I improved and I stayed at +7. I even got a birdie. This showes that my mental strength was good. My driver was very good and so was my fairway driver. I also had consistent iron shots (even though I didn't hit them as far as I wished). Finally, I was able to make all of the putts under five feet.

first top ten in the fall season

In the summer, it is easy to get top ten in tournaments because
  1. Sometimes there is less than ten people going
  2. Most of the people aren't very good
  3. There are tournaments almost every day so it's easy to try and get top ten
In the fall, however, all of the good players play and there are tournaments only in the weekends so there aren't as many chances to get top ten.

Overview
In the tournament, I got four pars, three bogeys, but unfortunately, two double bogeys. I tied my record with a +7

Anticipation of School

I'm neutral about my regular school starting. The thing that is giving me the willies is CHINESE school. I have been dreading it all year long. The thing I don't like about it is the mid-term tests. Every three or so lessons I have this huge test and I have to remember lots of words to write sentences, read passages, and lots more.

Turtle Rock
My school in Turtle Rock is a different story. I'm kind of excited for school to start because I can see one lots of my friends again. One of them in particular is a guy named Gabriel. His parents don't let him play with me unless if I have a birthday party or a special event or something.

Hawaii (last day): Day 8

Today is my last day in Maui........................ :(

Snorkeling
I first went snorkeling to say a goodbye to all of the fish. I said a farewell to a needle fish, lots of angelfish, and lots more. I also played on the sand and made a sand dam again. This time is made this fat guy named "sand man". Unfortunately, the man got beaten by the waves.

Home sweet home
At around nine or ten I came back home. Surprisingly, I wasn't homesick at all. I was more "Maui sick", but I was glad to be home to see my friends again and get ready for school.

Conclusion
I liked Maui overall, but there were some things that I wanted to do but I didn't. I was begging my mom to play golf but she wouldn't budge. I also didn't get to rent a bike and ride around Maui. Sigh...........................
